This technique, of adorning the fabric in general, has a long existence and over time it has undergone several changes in techniques, purpose, users, style ... But it has never ceased to be authentic. Formerly, it was a symbol of wealth; currently, is the one of originality.
If at first glance the terms "actuality" and "originality" do not go hand in hand with "embroidery" (due to the old-fashioned perception that embroidery still has the connotation of traditional, decorative/artistic practice, frequently using floral and/or geometric patterns), it is time to change of opinion.
Whether we refer to machine or hand embroidery, common or haute couture, the designs, techniques and results reveal the diversity and modernity of this practice: accurately executed replicas of famous paintings; the world of graffiti artists, tattoo artists, skateboarders, bikers ... who transform their signatures into embroidery; companies that brand their products; and let`s not forget about the latest collections from world- renowned fashion houses. Simply said, embroidery is present as one of the practices of humanity that best adapted to time changes and progress.
Today, brand logos, unique clothing designs, slogans, emblems, etc., all use advanced embroidery techniques to offer particularity and peculiarity to their clothing items and accessories. That makes it almost impossible that (at least some of our clothes / accessories) haven't gone through the embroidery process before we bought them.
What does machine embroidery mean?
If hand embroidery involves artistic talent, many hours of dedication and unique final products, embroidery machines mediate between the artistic sense of the process and its practical usability.
Machine embroidery is different for several reasons: the speed of execution, less probability of errors in execution, professional finishing, the possibility of repeating the same template as many times as we want and the reduced physical effort.
Brief, more quality for less time and effort.
Depending on the size of the embroidery and the wanted effect, different stitch rates are used; depending on the embroidered fabric, different sizes of needles are needed, while the composition of the thread is also taken into account to distinguish between embroidery qualities and techniques. When deciding the ideal positioning, each type of embroidery (whether text or image), comes with its standard recommendations; but the imagination is the only limit to decide both the design and the positioning. Also, depending on the wanted effect it`s possible to embroider directly on the fabric or use patches. One can choose to embroider a new garment or bring to life old one (which, through personalization, extend their usability being thus a sustainability practice that we encourage).
Another key step for a good embroidery is to choose the right colors. For a design or logo to convey the desired message, it must be accompanied by the appropriate color. We already know that there is a color code and an emotion associated with each one, but when we refer to embroidery we have to bear in mind that the fabric does not always have neutral tones to leave the colors of the seam transmit their intensity, therefore the color the background becomes an active part of the embroidery. In these cases, we have to understand that the embroidery serves to add value and particularity to the article and has to have color tones that are harmonious with the color of the fabric.
