The Nets: from New Jersey to Brooklyn

The move from New Jersey to Brooklyn began with what looked like a champion team at the hands of Russian billionaire Projorov. In the last year in New Jersey (2011-12) they achieved only 22 victories and the transfer to Brooklyn meant a total change of course.

It began with the renovation of the Deron Williams base and center Brook Lopez and, later, the signing of the escort Joe Johnson, star at the time of the Atlanta Hawks. At the end of the 2012-13 season and on the night of the NBA draft, he took one of the craziest changes in history. Already Hall of Fame Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were transferred to the Brooklyn Nets to start the super-team project in exchange for a number of players and many future rounds of the draft. Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Brook Lopez formed a fearsome team, with Jason Terry of sixth man.

The age and money of the quintet was the main problem. Williams 29, Johnson 32, Pierce 36, Garnett 38 and Lopez 25 with 80 million salaries among the 5 headlines, something unsustainable in the long term.

They managed to pass the round against the Toronto Raptors (4-3) but in the next round they fell against the Miami Heat of Lebron James, Wade and Bosh (1-4). The following year they fell in the first round against the Atlanta Hawks (4-2) and the team was just dismantled.

The exchange between the Celtics and the Nets allowed the Proud Greens to take Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum in positions 3 of the NBA draft in 2016 and 2017, two players with a great future. Bad elections prevented the Brooklyn Nets from making a quick and good reconstruction. Over the years, a team with potential champion has been built. The signing of d'Angelo Russell and the draft elections of Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert and Joe Harris have managed to form a very powerful and very young base, able to stand up to many teams despite their youth.

The change

In the free agency of 2019 the step forward to success came. D'Angelo Russell ended the contract and allowed even more room to hire free agents and they did so. Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant (injured for a year) arrive at the Brooklyn Nets to change the story alongside the young base that was already in place.

The revaluation

The period of success that has been implanted in the Nets has greatly increased the value of the team, as well as the demand for NBA Brooklyn Nets caps. You will find all the designs on our website. Choose your cap now in Top Hats!
