The current team of the considered best player of all time, Michael Jordan and his Charlotte Hornets, are undergoing a reconstruction in which they have been subjected for many years and that seems to remain the same in the short and medium term.

CHARLOTTE HORNETS BEGINNINGS

In 1985 the NBA announced an expansion of the league with four other franchises. In the city of Charlotte, university basketball stood out with the Charlotte 49ers and Davidson Wildcats and it was also a city that was in full expansion. At that time the decision to put an NBA franchise in Charlotte was also criticized, believing that the city was not able to maintain an NBA franchise. It became the 24th NBA franchise, in addition to a pavilion (Charlotte Coliseum) where there were 24,000 spectators, the most capable in the history of the NBA. The other franchises that were created together with the Charlotte Hornets were in Miami (Heat), Minneapolis-Saint Paul (Timberwolves) and Orlando (Magic).

1988-92 Difficult Beginnings

Four years to get used to and settle in the league, without a good team or great players until the 1991 draft, when they selected Larry Johnson who won the Rookie of the Year award.

1992-99 Growth of the Hornets

The 1992 draft was also very positive for those in North Carolina, when they chose center Alonzo Mourning. These last two elections allowed the franchise to grow a lot, being players able to easily get 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. That same season they were fifth in the East and eliminated the Boston Celtics in the first round.

It was the most glorious era of the franchise getting into Playoffs more times although they met the fearsome Jordan Bulls where they had nothing to do against them.

In 1996 the transfers marked an improvement in the present of the franchise in exchange for mortgaging its future. They traded Johnson in exchange for Anthony Mason and got Vlade Divac in exchange for ... the newly drafted Kobe Bryant! A team with 54 victories in the regular league but then they were swept in the first round by the New York Knicks.

2004 Charlotte Bobcats

The Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans for the 2002-03 season and the city along with the NBA agreed to create another team for the city in the 2004-05 season. Finally a shareholder group along with Michael Jordan and Nelly took over the team. Bobcats' name was decided after a vote, honoring the red lynx, a predator from North Carolina.

In the 2004 draft they were able to select one player per team from which the franchises had declared eligible.

2011-12 Worst Balance in NBA History

Dark season obtaining only 7 wins and 59 losses in the whole season, the worst record ever seen. Despite the horrific record, they did not get the first position. They stayed with the second and chose Michael Kidd Gilchrist who did not progress what was expected.

The new Charlotte Hornets

In 2013 Jordan was already the owner of the team and they decided to change the name to Charlotte Hornets again, returning to take the name that years ago belonged to New Orleans but also changed the name of the team to Pelicans.

With the new Charlotte Hornets, no Playoff season has been achieved, only to choose Kemba Walker in the draft, recently signed by the Celtics, the top scorer in the franchise's history.

Despite being a team with bad records, they have a long history in the league. You can find a variety of caps on our website. The team caps owned by the best of all time, in Top Hats.
