About Ed Hardy

Don Ed Hardy was born in January 1945. He is a tattoo artist from the United States. He is best known for being the first designer in his country to make his designs with Asian aesthetic techniques and styles. They call him the ambassador of the tattoo culture for impregnating his designs with references to different cultures.

Ed Hardy's Career

Ed Hardy was born in Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, California, in 1945. He went to the Art Institute of San Francisco. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts of Painting. He specialized in prints and prints. Thanks to partnering with Sailor Jerry, Ed Hardy had the opportunity to study in Japan in 1973 with Japanese classical art teacher Horihide Horiyoshi II. Known as Kuronuma. Ed Hardy was noted for introducing Japanese aesthetics in American tattoos. Apart revolutionized the tattoo in the West. For example, the concept of custom tattoo (custom made tattoo). It was something Ed Hardy did for the first time when he opened his first studio in San Francisco, called Relistic Tattoo.

In 1981, he created the Hardy Marks Publications and published a series of books called Tattootime. As well as a multitude of publications about artists. Between them they can stand out titles like Rock of Ages, Rosie Camanga, Sailor Jerry Flash.

Currently Hardy is not tattooing, but is a mentor to the artists of Tattoo City in his studio in San Francisco. Since the 80s he has dedicated himself to other forms of art, such as painting and drawing, his artistic activity continues, painting in all kinds of materials, from canvas or paper to ceramics. On June 18, 2013, he published his memoir, titled Ed Hardy, Wear Your Dreams (Ed Hardy, Use Your Dreams) in New York City.

About the Ed Hardy trademark

In 2004, fashion designer Christian Audigier acquired the rights to produce an Ed Hardy clothing line. This is based on artist's designs. After a while, a series of fragrances with the name of Hardy was also launched.
