Houston Rockets Caps

The caps of one of the best NBA basketball teams in Top Hats. New Era and Mitchell & Ness caps and the historic Hall of Fame Hakeem Olajuwon t-shirt! ...

The current Houston Rockets, began their journey in the NBA in San Diego (California), named San Diego Rockets. They only stayed in San Diego for four years with the election in the 1968 Draft of Elvin Hayes, later transferred in exchange for Moses Malone (in 1976, with the team already located in Houston, Texas) who became the team captain . A Moses Malone who won the regular season MVP 2 times and led his Rockets to their first NBA Finals in 1981, falling in six games against the Boston Celtics.

After the achievement of the second MVP of Moses Malone in 1982, the player was transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers and ended up signing a 14-68 in the regular NBA season. After that horrible season, the first position in the NBA Draft was waiting for them and they selected center player Ralph Sampson, a player who greatly improved the team and won the Rookie of the Year award despite being one of the last classified in the league, leaving intentionally losing looking for a good draft choice and so it was.

After the election of Sampson and the next tanking, in 1984 they again had the first choice of the Draft, thus selecting the Nigerian pivot Hakeem Olajuwon, who finished second in the Rookie of the Year vote behind Michael Jordan. Sampson and Olajuwon formed the duo called The Twin Towers that allowed them to win the Western Conference and reach the NBA Finals again although with the same final, with a 6-game loss to the Boston Celtics.

In the 1993-94 season with Ralph Sampson already transferred (in 1987) to lower its productivity, the success came to the franchise. One started with a 15-0 record and ended up winning the NBA ring eliminating the New York Knicks in the Finals. Some Finals where they were losing 3-2 but managed to overcome first with a Olajuwon saving cap and then with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds in the seventh and last game.

The following year and with the reinforcement of the Hall of Fame Clyde Drexler from Portland, they entered the Playoffs as sixth in the West but still won the ring again after sweeping the Utah Jazz, then defeating the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs MVP David Robinson and finally sweeping the Orlando Magic by Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway 4-0.

After these two incredible seasons, injuries, age and the appearance of the best Bulls liquidated their aspirations to the ring.

In 2001 the Rockets with a veteran Olajuwon no longer managed to get into the Playoffs so they started rebuilding. Olajuwon was transferred and Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley were the ones who carried the team. A poor next year but again the luck in the draft happened to them.

Yao Ming arrived, the Chinese center selected in the first position of the Draft. It took two years to re-enter the Playoffs and three to return to Olympus. The additions of Tracy McGrady (T-Mac), Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue and Reece Gaines in 2000 changed the face of the team.

Until 2010 they had a great team to achieve important milestones but the physicist of the 2,29m pivot and T-Mac who were constantly injured, ended up deleting them from the map always losing in the first or second round of playoffs or even without qualifying . In February 2010 they began rebuilding again, now transferring to Tracy McGrady.

In 2012 a totally unexpected movement changed the direction of the Texas franchise. The transfer of Kevin Martin and Jeremy Lamb for the best sixth man of last season (James Harden) will remain for history. A sixth man who already in his first game became the team leader with 37 points, 12 assists, 6 steals and 4 rebounds and debuting in the All-Star Game that same season.

In the 2013-14 season accompanied by Dwight Howard, Lin and Parsons, the following year with Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon replacing Howard and the following year with the incorporation of Chris Paul they continued trying to get the ring with the system of playing with possessions 10 seconds or less, but failed.

For this new 2019/20 season with a squad with Westbrook (ex-MVP), Harden (ex-MVP), Gordon, PJ Tucker and Capela will try again to get this ring so desired that they do not get from Hakeem Olajuwon.
